Developing Leadership to Shape the Future of Education for All

We are the Vermont division of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing more than 175,000 educators from 119 countries and nearly 60 affiliates. Members span the entire profession of educators: superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members.

We address all aspects of effective teaching and learning, such as professional development, educational leadership, and capacity building. ASCD offers broad, multiple perspectives—across all education professions—in reporting key policies and practices. Because we represent all educators, we are able to focus solely on professional practice within the context of "Is it good for the children?" rather than what is reflective of a specific educator role. In short, ASCD reflects the conscience and content of education.

President's Message

Welcome to VTASCD! I am beginning my first year in a two year term as president of VTASCD. Our organization represents Vermont educators from all facets of the profession. We are an affiliate of the national organization, ASCD.

We are looking forward to our Fall Conference on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Stoweflake Resort and Spa in Stowe, VT. In keeping with the state-wide work on Transformation we are excited to bring Bernajean Porter to VT. Her message is timely for all of us. Many of us have heard the generalists, the policy level presenters. We have seen the potential of technology to change instruction and learning. But, does it actually change what is going on in the learning environment in our schools? Or is it the same strategy with technology—slick but not transformative?

Benajean Porter knows the difference. It is the “next step” for us as we change Vermont schools. We have asked Bernajean to push our thinking beyond what we have heard from other presenters. She is excited to accept the challenge. We are looking forward to a provocative day!

We encourage you to send a team of leaders from your district to keep the conversation going upon their return to your schools. Click Here to download flyer.

Register now to insure you have space for your team.

Check out the Northeast ASCD conference information, too.

Look forward to seeing you in Stowe, November 17!
